Day 4            Wednesday           January 14
After breakfast, man your chair near the Lochsa Lodge fireplace with a hot beverage and a warm up to more thoughtful conversations with new friends and humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson. After lunch enjoy several hours free to walk, write, or engage in social or outdoor activities.  Today's activity for those daring: a group "dutch oven" cook off in "the kitchen in the wilderness" followed by an outdoor campfire hearty with fun and laughter and more humanities discussions with Clay before dinner.

Day 5            Thursday               January 15
"Whose woods these are I think I know...  "  Today these are your tranquil woods.  This time of year in the Bitterroots the snowflakes float and drift lazily.  Or you'll find the bold blue sky of winter casting rays of sunshine to awaken nature's shimmering diamonds resting quietly atop blankets of snow.  Your quiescence breaks as your boots squeak down the frozen cut-outs transporting you from your cabin to your lodge.  This is a magic day of wonder on your final journey with Clay, as he takes you down the pathway of your remaining texts and conversations this morning. After your fireside lunch enjoy an optional hike to a nearby hot spring:  First you cross the Lochsa River on a USFS hand-built bridge.  You will walk a maintained but snowy path along this stretch of a beautiful tributary of the Lochsa River called Warm Springs.  Sightings of the dark stream below peak though a snow-white laden canvas, at times exposing rivulets of teal and small dancing waterfalls.  You have arrived when you witness hot steam rising from a variety of small pools and a larger pool of steaming hot springs water.  Deeper in the forest now, your remote outdoor setting has become intoxicating.  Dress warm but layer with your swim suit underneath.  Towels will be provided.  Drinking in your surroundings with pure relaxation you will enjoy a pleasure not soon forgotten. A quiet moment in the hot spring offers you your best chance to see some winter wildlife from a far, (moose being the most prevalent, but deer, elk, bear, lynx, snow ermines, geese, swans, eagles, osprey and blue herons etc., have been spotted in this area).  Tonight our famous Farewell Dinner Party and saying goodbye to new friends.
